Shovel Knight and Megaman
I’ve owned Shovel Knight (Yacht Club games) on the 3DS for some time and attempted to get into it more times than I can count. The game just never really grabbed me, but then again, neither has the series it is so often compared to, Mega Man.
I know this is may be considered blasphemous in some quarters, but I’ve never really ‘got’ Capcom’s Blue bomber. Admittedly, I didn’t grow up with the NES – the Mega Drive was my first console, having owned a Spectrum 128k and Commodore 64 prior to that, so history may play a part, although, I do enjoy other NES games; both the Castlevania and Mario series are timeless classics that are still great to play today.
Mega Man games are notoriously difficult, but that isn’t what’s putting me off as I enjoy challenging games. So what irks me about Capcom’s Blue Bomber?
He has an annoying jump, some irritatingly designed enemies and, having gone back and dabbled with some of the NES’ other more understated action games, feels somewhat antiquated; compared to Ninja Gaiden’s Ryu, for example, Mega man’s movement just doesn’t feel as tight.
I’ve had the Mega Man collection for sometime on PS4 and having recently picked up of Shovel Knight also on PS4, I’m willing to give both titles a chance.
