This evening, (9pm UK time to be precise), Wii owners will no longer be able to add Wii points to their virtual wallets to purchase titles. Although the Wii shop will remain open until January 31st 2019, unless you added sufficient points before tomorrow’s deadline, it will no longer be possible to add Nintendo’s currency to purchase titles.
With this in mind, I’ve spent some time this weekend trying to identify which titles I should pick up before the disappear forever. I started looking for rare Mega Drive gems; games that I don’t have a hope of buying due to their cost or lack of availability elsewhere. Unfortunately, PAL Wii owners like myself, have been blighted by the same issue that distorted our gaming experiences during 8 and 16-bit eras – inferior ports running at 50Hz. With so many great titles available on the platform, it’s a shame that PAL users have to put up with sub standard versions of quality titles, once again.
As a result, I will only be adding Wii points to cover WiiWare games and maybe one or two ultra rare titles. Very disappointing Nintendo!
